If you currently have, or are planning to open, a lodging facility in Ashtabula County, there are a few updates you need to know about. Have you registered with the county? If not, you must do so. If you own multiple lodging properties, you must register each property. This tax also applies to Bed and Breakfasts.
There are several changes that you need to notify the county about:
- Changing from day/weekly rental to a monthly rental
- If you open or close a lodging facility
- For seasonal lodging, you must notify the county of your start and end dates
Sometimes Airbnb automatically collects the lodging tax . Unfortunately, it does not for Ashtabula County, so you will be responsible for doing so. The taxes are due at the end of the following month that you are reporting. For example, taxes from June’s operation is due at the end of July.
What does the tax money go? The majority of the taxes go to the Ashtabula County Convention Facilities Authority (CFA) and the Ashtabula County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Smaller portions are used for the administration of the tax through the Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners.
