Log cabins have become very popular, especially in country, wooded settings. If you plan to purchase a log cabin, here are a few maintenance tasks that will keep your house in tip, top shape.
Check for damage.
If let unchecked, you could end up paying a high price for repairs. Wood is more susceptible to damage. This damage can come from bugs or water.
Seal up the cabin.
Make sure the logs are sealed so water cannot get in. Log cabins should be re-stained approximately every three years. Also, you will want to make sure to maintain the chinking (sealant on the joints). This should be done every three to five years.
Clean up.
Try to keep your plants, bushes and shrubs cut back from the cabin. These plants can hold excess moisture and cause rot on the logs.
